Deer & Doe Bruyere
I have had the Deer and Doe Bruyere shirt pattern in my stash for ages, and as soon as I received this Robert Kaufman flannel from Minerva I knew it would be perfect for this pattern. Finally!
This is a pattern that's been around for a while, but I love the shape of it with the fitted waist and the flared out bottom half. I remember seeing a review of it on Tilly’s (and the buttons) blog back before she was releasing her own patterns.
I think I ordered 2.5 metres of this fabric and it was only just enough to do this shirt, 3m would have been better and allowed better pattern matching. Minerva sent me the fabric in exchange for a review, which can be found on their site here.
The flannel is super soft and a slightly loose weave, so it frays really easily. I made sure to finish all my seams on the overlocker and cut my notches clearly.
This shirt doesn't have all the classic shirt construction details, like a collar stand, but was still really satisfying to make. The flannel is nice and sturdy when interfaced so my collar and cuffs turned out pretty crisp.
It's been so lovely to wear this shirt through winter, it's really cosy but also smart enough for work (which is great because my office has been really chilly recently).
The colours in the fabric are great as well, I have found this shirt easy to pair with black trousers and jeans. I also have a cropped black jumper that works well with it.
I have worn and washed this a lot of the past couple of months and it's still looking and feeling great.
