The Assembly Line Wrap Jacket

I bought The Wrap Jacket by The Assembly Line a couple of years ago and nearly made it several times, but didn't quite have the right fabric. Then this perfect navy blue cotton twill from Minerva arrived and I knew I could finally fulfil my wrap jacket dreams!

The Assembly Line seem to specialise in simple patterns with interesting construction / details. This pattern has a cut-on collar, elbow darts and is a really nice shape. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Everything in the pattern feels well thought through so that assembling it is straightforward and sensible.

The cotton twill was the perfect fabric for this. It is stable, matt finish and presses and sews beautifully. There is a slight stretch to it, which makes the jacket very comfortable to wear. At the time of writing the fabric is £12.99 per metre and I used 2 metres for this (though check the fabric requirements for your size) I think the quality is great for the money and Minerva often have deals on so it’s worth keeping an eye out.

I first wore this to go and see Bill Bailey in Sheffield and had such a good evening, so I already have great memories of wearing this. It's the perfect jacket to make an outfit look a bit smarter. It's also unlined, so pretty lightweight. It has been too cold to wear this recently, but I’m looking forward to spring when a lighter jacket is required!

I really enjoyed sewing this and it's been a useful addition to my wardrobe. It's the perfect pattern and fabric combination. I think I would like to make some matching wide leg smart trousers to create a suit.
